LANDSLIPS have beset Isle of Wight beaches over recent weeks.

At Brook Beach, the path has dropped leaving a steep step of nearly a foot.

Walkers who manage to navigate this obstacle will then find the beach is harder to access, as most of the route has washed away, leaving a narrow pathway and a steep climb down.

Along the West Wight coast, there is further evidence of erosion, with a considerable cliff fall along the beach at Brighstone.

Another landslip occurred at Alum Bay Chine and the path leading to the beach has been closed due to the wooden steps being dangerous to use.

David Howarth, chair of the Isle of Wight Ramblers and path representative for the Totland area said: "I went to Alum Bay to look at the path closure. There has been a landslip along the Chine exposing the top part of the steps.

"The wooden steps do not appear to be damaged but are in a vulnerable state. There were many people around, although I did not see anyone attempting to use the closed path."

He wants to find out what can be done to reinstate the path.
