THERE have been reports of a multi-vehicle incident in East Cowes this evening (Monday).

A spokesperson from the Ambulance Service confirmed they were on their way to the scene at Whippingham Road at 6.10pm.

Southern Vectis has reported that traffic is starting to build in the area, affecting routes 4 and 5.

UPDATE: Fire crews from Newport and East Cowes have also been mobilised to the scene.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Service confirmed three vehicles are involved in the collision.

UPDATE: The spokesperson from the fire service has confirmed there are two casualties at the scene and one of them is trapped in a vehicle.

UPDATE: Whippingham Road is currently impassable due to the accident.

UPDATE 7pm: A witness at the scene said: "Traffic isn't moving at all and loads of cars are turning around."

The Fire and Rescue Service are still in attendance. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been requested due to the nature of the injuries.

UPDATE 7.45pm: Two people were taken to hospital following the incident. One casualty was extracted by the fire service and then taken to hospital by air ambulance.

One other casualty was taken by land ambulance to St Mary's Hospital.

UPDATE 9pm: The road remains closed.

UPDATE 10.40pm: Whippingham Road is now open.
