RUSH hour traffic is suffering long delays coming into Newport along Fairlee Road, following the introduction of a one-way system on Staplers Road.

Commuters have reported traffic jams as far back as Wootton Bridge.

Southern Vectis have cancelled  buses because of the delays.

Southern Vectis said: "The 8.40am Route 9 Newport to Ryde and return 9.15am Ryde to Newport will not operate due to late arrival of incoming trip as a result of delays along Fairlee Road."

Staplers Road was made one-way yesterday and this morning (Tuesday) was the rush hour affected by the system.

Traffic can travel out of Newport up Staplers Road, but not into Newport.

The one-way system is to allow for Southern Water works on the road.

A temporary parking restriction on Furrlongs, Newport, which was announced yesterday, has been lifted while it is reviewed by Island Roads.
