A CRASH on Knighton Shute has closed the road this morning (Thursday).

The incident occurred at around 9.15am and happened near the junction with the Downs Road.

Isle of Wight Police tweeted that the crash involved two vehicles, and was being dealt with by the fire service and police.

Police have asked that members of the public respect the cordon.

An air ambulance also attended the scene but did not convey anyone to hospital.

UPDATE: An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said Newport and Shanklin firefighters had extricated a woman from one of the vehicles. The patient is now in the care of the ambulance service.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 9.03am to reports of a collision on Knighton Shute. A Toyota Rav4 and a Ford Fusion were involved. One person sustained minor injuries.

"The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene but has since re-opened."

A spokesman from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service said: "The air ambulance attended but it did not convey anybody [to hospital]."
