AN ARMY of Islanders took to Newport streets today (Saturday) as part of an eco campaign.
The group — part of Extinction Rebellion's rally — met at St Thomas' Square before marching through Newport and across Coppins Bridge.
A national group, the Extinction Rebellion's aim is to 'encourage a citizens' uprising involving low level and higher risk acts of civil disobedience.'
According to its website: "We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. The government has failed to protect us."

Thank you to all who came out to the first XRIW rally. We really appreciate everyone’s time and support.
We completed a very loud but nonetheless peaceful march, culminating in a letter of demands being delivered to County Hall. pic.twitter.com/sLR8K7yibC
A motorist has also been criticised by protestors for driving irresponsibly on Coppins Bridge during the protest.
