THE campaign to achieve 'Plastic Free coastline' status in Shanklin continued last week.

More than 45 adults and children from the local community headed to the shore to fill their sacks.

The beach was littered with fishing nets, wire, plastic bottles, barbecue debris, tyre parts and concrete waste.

More than 800 cigarette butts were collected alongside some peculiar items — a shoe, a hat and some waste that was simply unrecognisable.

The team said: "Thank you so much to all of you who took part and a big thanks to Dougie who took the rubbish away."

"If everyone picks up one piece of litter when they're out and about it all makes a difference.

"More importantly, don't drop it in the first place."

Plastic Free Shanklin has recently taken over the beach and street cleans from Shanklin Green Town.
