SAVVY shoppers queued up the street for the opening of Shanklin Rotary's annual jumble sale this morning (Tuesday).

The sale, which includes bargains from records, books and clothes to televisions, sofas and wardrobes, runs for two weeks every January.

Watch the scene below:

John Fleming, secretary of Shanklin Rotary, said: "The goods come from all over the Island. You name an Island location, we've collected from there.

"People put stuff aside for us all year and the money goes straight back into Isle of Wight charities."

Isle of Wight County Press:

Barry Payne, 75, who was first at the door at 8am this morning (Tuesday). He said: "I'm not looking for anything particular. Just whatever is on offer — I may even empty the place."

Steve Knight, mayor of Shanklin, said the event was extremely important for the Shanklin community.

Thousands are expected to attend the sale over the next two weeks.

Last year, the team raised £38,000 and Lynda Fleming, president of the rotary club, said it was the most important day in the calendar.

"The money goes to Shanklin, the whole of the Isle of Wight and any disasters around the world. The main thing is, Isle of Wight people give and we give it back.

"It's a great recycling initiative, too, so don't chuck stuff — there's always somebody who can use it."
