FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a smoking tumble drier at a property at Lower Furlongs, Brading, this afternoon (Wednesday).

Crews from Ryde were called to the incident which took place at 2.09pm.

They gave safety advice about the appliance to the householder and made sure the scene was safe.

A Ryde Fire Station spokesperson said: "Thankfully the tumble drier fire was out on arrival.

"We’d like to remind you of the importance of using electrical appliances such as tumble driers, washing machines and dishwashers only when you’re at home and awake and, of course, having working smoke alarms."
