THE 1st Brighstone Scout Group raised nearly £2,000 following its annual fundraising auction at the village's Wilberforce Hall.

Lots included a grandfather clock, furniture, glassware, pictures, gardening items and bikes.

Mike Hamlet, who has been auctioneer for many years, conducted the sale, and was assisted by dedicated helpers.

The final total came to £1,822 and the proceeds will go towards the £5,000 a year scout hall running costs.

Organiser, Terry Eastaff, said: "We have been doing this for 19 years and volunteers like Brian Thompson and Paul Medland have been stalwarts for us collecting, shifting and arranging items during the week before.

"Mike Hamlet was also great fun, as usual, doing the auctioneering.

"We need to raise £5,000 each year to cover hall running costs including insurance, heat and light and cleaning, and this goes a long way towards that."
