WITH just two weeks left on the West Wight school places consultation, more than 300 responses have already been received by the Isle of Wight Council.

As previously reported, the authority's preferred option to tackle falling student numbers in the West Wight would be the closure of All Saints’ Primary School in Freshwater and the expansion of nearby St Saviour’s RC Primary.

However, the council said it had received a number of alternative suggestions on the proposed options which would be reviewed and fed into ongoing plans.

Cllr Paul Brading, cabinet member for education, said: "I am very pleased to see we have received in excess of 300 responses so far on the consultation in to West Wight school places.

“I would continue to encourage everybody with an interest in the consultation to respond before it closes at midnight on April 15.

"As we continue to receive alternate options to the council’s preferred option, we will follow-up on them to ensure future decisions taken are fully informed.”

The consultation is underway as there is an oversupply of school places in the West Wight area — a trend which the council expects to continue in the coming years.
