Tributes are being paid to a well-known and much-loved Isle of Wight musician, who has died aged 80.

Chris Mew, from Sandown, passed away at Mountbatten Hospice on August 15, following a battle with liver cancer.

For more than 60 years, Chris performed in the Island's music scene and, over the years, he featured in several bands.

He even played with Phil and Boon Gould of Level 42, and worked with frontman, Mark King, before the band took off.

Chris' step daughter, Helena Mace, said Phil came to his funeral and they had planned to work together again.

They also performed together back in April for his birthday, she said.

During his music career, Chris also played in Midnight Creepers, The Meteors and most recently Firefly, among other bands.

Such was his love of music, Chris was still performing months into his chemotherapy treatment.

Over the years, Chris also worked with many presenters on Isle of Wight Radio and Vectis Radio.

Chris is survived by his partner Sue, children Alison, Paul, Nick and Ley, stepdaughters Helena and Jo, and grandchildren Cassidy and Noah.

Donations from his funeral went to the hospice, which looked after Chris in his final days.
