Former long-term County Press employee Reg Taylor has died at the age of 88.

Reg was born in Lake in 1935, and was a printer throughout his working life - initially in the army Royal Corps of Signals during National Service, and then at the Isle of Wight Chronicle in Sandown.

Reg met his wife Ruth, who worked at Millerships, while delivering newspapers for the Chronicle.

The couple married in 1961 and Reg joined the County Press in 1963, as a print compositor.

That same year, their son Andy was born, followed by daughter Ali in 1966.

Reg was a loyal employee at the County Press until his retirement.

Reg and Ruth lived at Ventnor Road, Apse Heath, for 58 years and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Reg was a keen fisherman and also a long term member of Arreton Social Club, where he enjoyed playing snooker.

He stayed in touch with old friends from his army days, and colleagues from the County Press, throughout his retirement.

He died on Boxing Day in St Mary’s Hospital, following a short illness.

He is now reunited with daughter Ali, and survived by his wife Ruth, son Andy, and grandchildren Steve, Jamie and Brooke.

The funeral will take place on February 7.
