AN ISLE of Wight shoplifter with more than 150 previous offences has been sentenced.

Kevin Greenwood, of West Street, Ryde, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, April 26.

The 44-year-old admitted theft from a shop in Ryde, on January 27.

Prosecutor, Lauren Stone, said Greenwood was seen on CCTV entering the Co-operative on Anglesea Street in Ryde.

She said he selected a crate of Budweiser to the value of £11.50 and left the store without paying.

The court heard Greenwood had 48 previous convictions for 152 offences, of which 90 were theft and kindred matters.

Ms Stone said it was a low-level offence, but the stolen alcohol was not recovered.

Oscar Vincent, defending, described it as an unsophisticated shoplifting offence.

He said Greenwood was easily identified, and the matter pre-dated a suspended sentence order imposed on him in March.

Greenwood, who has a large backlog of fines and compensation orders, was ordered to pay £11.50 to the Co-operative.
