AN ISLE of Wight man who launched serious assaults on two men and wrecked three vehicles on a dual carriageway in a Honda Civic while uninsured, has had his sentencing delayed after a report to consider his punishment was not prepared for his hearing.

George Swain, of Mary Rose Avenue, Wootton Bridge, admitted — at an earlier hearing — assaulting two men in Newport on February 3, together with aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and driving without a licence and insurance, on Medina Way, Newport, on April 10.

The 25-year-old appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on April 11.

On that occasion, the bench remanded Swain in custody and ordered a report on him, to be considered for sentencing today (Tuesday, April 30).

However, because his complex mental health issues came to light afterwards, a different probation officer has been assigned to write the report, which caused a delay in producing the report, explained Dawn Young, of the Probation Service.

Swain appeared in court by video link from HMP Isle of Wight.

Magistrates continued to remand Swain in custody, to reappear for sentencing at the same venue on Tuesday, May 7.
