What is thought to be raw sewage is pouring out of a drain on a main road in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

The County Press has been told a cover has lifted on Terminus Road and Union Road.

A resident said students walking to school are having to go through 'raw sewage'.

The drain has lifted at the crossroads, near the car park.

One Islander said he was attempting to contact Southern Water's emergency line, but had been stuck in a phone queue for 80 minutes.

The County Press has asked the utility firm for a comment.
