A foot passenger launch service is in place between Cowes and East Cowes this morning (Friday), as the Isle of Wight's floating bridge is pulled from action once again.

The Isle of Wight Council has said it is to allow for the vessel's east prow ram to be replaced.

Wear was detected during routine maintenance.

Work is being done between 8am and 2pm today, to ensure the chain ferry is ready for the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday, May 4, the chain ferry is expected to busy due a walking event, with 100 people taking part.

The following day, Sunday, there is a Randonnee, which could see around 3,000 cyclists take part.

A council spokesperson said: "Therefore if you are commuting with us Sunday there may be some delays."

Today, a launch service, the Jenny Lee, is in place for pedestrians and cyclists.
