AN ISLE of Wight man who threw a heavy bag containing books at his pregnant ex-partner and breached a non-molestation court order has been sentenced.

Liam Saltzer, of Bellevue Road, Cowes, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Tuesday, April 30.

The 36-year-old had initially denied, but went on to admit assault by beating, in Cowes, on May 27 of last year.

At a previous hearing, he also admitted breaching a non-molestation order, in Ryde, between January 1 and May 28 of last year.

Prosecutor, Tim Devlin, told the court he assaulted his ex-partner – the mother of his child – at his home address.

He said he threw a heavy bag containing books at the victim, who was ten weeks pregnant at the time and worried they could have hit her stomach.

Mr Devlin said Saltzer sent her emails from various addresses on several occasions.

Saltzer had 13 previous convictions for 17 offences.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said Saltzer sent the messages when he was feeling particularly low.

He said, on the day of the assault, the victim came to Saltzer’s home, and a verbal argument escalated.

Mr Vincent said it became heated and erupted into a full-blown row.

Saltzer was handed a 12-month community order, to include 20 rehabilitation days.

He was fined £120 with costs of £250.
