IT'S not often that you find music that manages to be classical, traditional, contemporary, innovative and loads of fun.

Scottish duo Twelfth Night manage to do just that.

They’ll be bringing their special mix to Quay Arts on Sunday, October 7 as part of a tour to promote their new album Cracks In The Room.

Produced by giant of English folk Chris Wood and mixed by long time Tom Waits collaborator, the legendary Oz Fritz, the new album sees the two musicians showing off their more edgy side and tackling contemporary issues but still retaining their sense of fun.

On stage they perform a lively mix of their own songs, traditional material, jazz, bits of classical and a mischievous selection of unexpected cover versions from Morrissey to Kanye West.

Orcadian fiddler Catriona Price and Peebles harpist Esther Swift have a wordless communication that has grown out of their decade long relationship since meeting at The Royal Northern College of Music.

Grounded in the folklore traditions of their respective Scottish Highland and Lowland upbringings, their outstanding technical ability allows them to explore a wide range of other influences.

Their music has taken them across four continents on a mission to explore the shared roots of world folk music. Funded by the Deutsche Bank Award in Performance and Composition, their project Routes to Roots took them to Quebec, Malawi, Brazil and Mongolia where they worked alongside local musicians and singers, bringing new colours to their musical palette.

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickers are £10 from the box office or £12 on the door.
