Shaftesbury Barnet, who have been an ever-present in Division One of the British Men's League for more than 20 years, face a fight for survival in the season's final fixture at Jarrow on Saturday.

Bottom club Blackheath are already relegated and Shaftesbury will be battling it out with Border Harriers and Sale to avoid joining them.

Border have ten points and Shaftesbury and Sale nine each, with aggregate points keeping Shaftesbury off the bottom.

Several Shaftesbury athletes were in action for Britain in the International against France at Ashford. Lyn Sprules won the hammer with 59.61m and David Parker (javelin, 70.06m), Robert Mitchell (high jump, 2.18m) and Julie Dunkley (shot, 15.50m) were all third.

Simmone Jacobs was seventh in the 100m (12.65sec) and Jo Fenn, who lives in Barnet, was sixth in the 800m (2min 07.62sec).
