School-by-school exam results published this week show pupils and teachers in Hertfordshire continuing to raise academic standards.

The proportion of Hertfordshire pupils gaining five or more high grade GCSE results in 1998 rose from 51 percent in 1997 to 54 percent in 1998, a full eight points higher than the national average of 46 percent.

The average total points score per student entered for GCSEs also rose from 39 in 1997 to 40 in 1998. The national average is 37.
