PRELIMINARY round matches of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cup signalled the return of the Isle of Wight’s indoor cricket season on Sunday, with the Northwood-Cowes derby the pick of the games.

Island Bakeries posted 143-3 against the IWCB Disability Team, with Ellis Ridett (47), Matt Stafford (26) and Webb (25) top scoring, amid tight bowling by Becky Jude (3-21).

The Disability side lost one wicket in reply, with Kayton Evans (25 not out) and Matt Rice (18) top scoring, but they came up short by 53 runs.

There was an exciting finish between Northwood and Cowes.

Cowes hit 120-4, Ciaran Saltzer (24) and Sam Cooke (20 not out), the pick of the batsmen, but despite efforts by Callum Witham (22) and Ash Goldsmith (27 not out), Northwood were unable to score from the last ball to lose by a run.

This Sunday’s cup quarter finals at Cowes Enterprise College will be: Cowes v Ryde School (6pm), Island Bakeries v Shanklin & Godshill I (7pm), Shanklin & Godshill II v Ryde (8pm) and the IWCB’s EPP v Brading (9pm).
