THE Isle of Wight Indoor Bowls Club’s men’s team earned their spot in the third round of the Denny Cup after beating Worthing Pavilion 88-81.

Both rinks, playing away, were integral to the team going through.

Paul Attrill, Brian Wells, Allen Best and Jack Berry, were 12-7 half-way through their match, but overturned the deficit to win 22-16.

The four of John Pearce, Ian Ball, Peter Furmidge and Ron Leleux led 12-6 after ten ends, but the opposition came back to take a one-shot advantage after 15 ends.

The Islanders, however, regained the lead to win 21-18, with Leleux sinking the jack in the ditch on the final end to score a four.

The home rinks fared less well, both losing by a single shot.

The rink of Andrew Nightingale, Richard Jeffery, Ian Morey and Bob Mortlock led 17-10 at one stage, but Worthing recovered well, scoring a four on the final end.

The men’s next Denny Cup tie will be against Victory, of Portsmouth, on Friday, November 17.

In the first round of the Yetton Plate, the ladies fought back to beat Palmerston, of Fareham, 79-73.
