ADGESTONE 4, NEWCHURCH 1

ADGESTONE are one step closer to the IW Memorial Cup after knocking Newchurch out the running at Nine Acres on Saturday.

It was Daniel Richardson for Adgestone who had the first chance. Assisted by Adam Cantelo, he sent the ball into the back of the net about 20 minutes in.

A penalty for Adgestone, after Stuart Drake was pushed to ground in the box, gave them a 2-0 lead as McCormack scored the pen in the 35th minute.

Newchurch had the first goal in the second half 60 minutes in when a penalty was awarded for a handball in the box. Keith Rust fired home for Newchurch straight into the top corner past Garrett.

In the 75th minute, Cantelo took a chance from outside the area. The shot flew over the crowded box and into the net.

It was another shot from Cantelo that brought the score to 4-1 for Newchurch.

With five minutes to go, McCormack crossed the ball into the box and Cantelo, who was on the line, managed to knock the ball past Broor.

Ben Brown, co-founder and secretary of Adgestone, said: “It was the best we’ve played all season and being a new side, it’s nice to get a good win under our belts.

“It’s come at a good time for us. It’s the massive boost we needed.”

Harvey Smith was man of the match for Adgestone.
