A PAIR of budding IW golfers headed to Freshwater Bay Golf Club to battle it out in the final for the 2018 Junior Matchplay Golf Trophy.

A group of 16 golfers competed in four knock out rounds throughout the summer. It was Harrison Lake and Campbell Laird who successfully made it through.

The final was played in sunny conditions with only a light wind.

Some great golf was played by both finalists. Campbell started strong, but 14-year-old Harrison found his form by the third hole and continued to dominate to take the win with a credible score of four up with three to play.

In a tightly contested 15 holes, Campbell won three, the pair drew on five and Harrison took the victory after performing better on seven holes.

Harrison was introduced to golf by his grandfather when he was ten.

The Ryde School student plays for and trains at Westridge Golf Club.

He consistently plays against older and more experienced players and recently came sixth in Westridge’s November Vase Stableford — where the top six players were all left on a score on 36 points.

Harrison, of Niton, also plays for the Westridge Junior Team, which won the team competition at an IW Junior Development Team earlier this month.
