RIDERS from the IW Motorcycle Club headed to Knighton Sand Pit for the Guy Fawkes Cup Trial.

The three youth riders in action at the trial, headed by Alfie Haydon, Dan Locke and Josh Morris, all had good rides.

Alfie rode a blinder to complete the trial with the joint lowest score of the day and only dropped eight marks.

An excelled second spot was secured by Dan while Josh, the only youth beginner of the day, posted a very good score of 14 despite the lack of competition.

The winner of the adult beginners’ class was Gary Jones, who finished with a big lead in front of second place Joe Moore.

In the tightly contested Sportsman class, Simon Newnham negotiated the ‘B’ route for a loss of only eight marks and nabbed the equalling lowest total of the day.

James Stay, the lone expert competitor, posted an impressive total of 13.

He said: “It was the ride of my life, I’m really happy with that.”

Jos Wright finished at the top of the intermediate leaderboard with a score of 14 — four ahead of Alan Gosden in second and Shaun Harris in third.

As Harris leads the championship by a slender margin of four points from Gosden and with two rounds to go, the battle could go to the wire.

The clubman class was won by Ben Brodie who finished on 16, just five marks ahead of Scott Milton who claimed the second spot.

Scout Gregory will be pleased with his third place finish following a move up in class from the Novice.

Simon Watmough convincingly took the Novice class — another rider finishing on eight points.

Colin Brodie and Rob Baker were tied on 15 but second place was awarded to Brodie who notched up 21 cleans to Baker’s 20, and championship leader, Dan Flux, was forced into fourth.

Nick Symes, twin shock, and John Townsend, British bike class, both claimed the maximum ten championship points to add to their seasons tally.
