At the Island Games 2023, the Isle of Wight is celebrating medals in shooting and athletics, so far.

In the 10,000m, runner Amy Kelland secured silver.

She told the County Press: "I have never done 10,000m on the track before - I've only ever done it on the road.

"I was thinking, 'How do I pace this?' and 'Is 25 laps going to feel like the longest thing ever?'"

Amy said: "I got into a rhythm and felt like I was really in the zone.

"Everyone's really supportive. When I was dropping off the group, one of the girls was motioning for me to get back behind her.

"It's so nice to be surrounded by athletes who want the best for you.

"I couldn't have done it without the support of the team."

There have been team golds for the shooting team, as well as an individual silver for Jai Nolan.

The team said:"It was tough. We're shooting on a headland at the bottom of the Island.

"We're surrounded by sea and cliffs, so it is spectacular.

"You've got no markers - it's different to what we're used to."

There are individual competitions today, before some sightseeing on a day off, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Team IOW men's football squad won its match with 2-0 against Finland's Aland.

Team Isle of Wight's men's manager, Tom McInnes told the County Press: "The standard seems to improve each time.

"We got off to a good start. It's important to win your first game - especially when only one goes through.

"I am proud of everyone. I was nervous. We scored within two minutes."
