SO FAR so good for TeamIOW at the 19th biennial Island Games in Guernsey, with medals galore won so far — with the promise of more to come as we reach the competition's exciting climax.

After four days, the Isle of Wight lie a creditable sixth in the medal table with a haul of 24 medals.

The vast majority of them have been scooped by the clay and target shooting teams — 15 in all.

The clay marksmen and women have amassed six gold medals in the disciplines of sports trap and English sporting.

Jennie Cartwright and Daniel Bishop have both won three gold medals, with Katie Bishop, Sarah Franklin, Mark Downer and Lee Pitman winning two.

In the target shooting, Shelley Sprack has won three silver medals — two of them paired up with sister Imogen Reed.

Matt Reed has won two silver medals — one of them paired up with Perron Phipps, and they also won two bronze together.

Team-mate, Jai Nolan, won silver in the NPA police pistol 1 open final.

In cycling, Kevin Chant transferred his stunning form in road time trials with Wightlink Wight Mountain CRT into the Island Games by winning individual gold and in the team event, alongside Elvis Belton, Nicolas Hutchings, George Spooner and team captain, Joe Staunton.

They also won bronze in the team road race event on Wednesday.

One of the big highlights was the gold medal won by Island hammer throwing legend, Andy Frost, who now lives in Switzerland.

Andy, who gave up competing, decided to represent the Isle of Wight after a long gap.

The 42-year-old, a four-time British champion, competed in three Commonwealth Games (2006, 2010 and 2014), finishing fourth in the first two.

Also in athletics, Amy Kelland ran superbly to win silver in the women's 10,000m, while Dan Eckersley matched her feat in the 3,000m steeplechase, missing out on gold to an Olympian by just 0.27secs.

In swimming, Abigail Lacey won silver in thee women's 200m individual medley, while Grace Poynter won bronze in the women's 200m breaststroke.

The table tennis team of Pat Thorley, Elaine Mills, Temeesha Hobbs, Anna Joyce, George Downing, Scott Lawson, Hugh Idle and manager, Danny Burns, won the team bronze award on Tuesday.

The team is looking good for other team and individual medals, as are the men's football team, who knocked out one of the favourites, Guernsey, 2-1 on Tuesday evening, in a winner-takes-all match in front of more than 2,000 spectators.
