From Iain McKie, Totland Bay:

I HAVE written twice to the Island’s Member of Parliament asking him to confirm whether or not, in an address to one of the Island’s schools, he has stated he believed wind turbines to be ‘things of beauty’ as claimed by three of the pupils. He has refused to reply to my requests.

Bob Seely is entitled, as we all are, to our own opinions.

However, given that an MP’s opinion can often carry more weight than other people’s and that wind turbines have been an especially contentious issue here on the Island, I find his silence offensive.

I am also offended by the fact he could have been preaching on this issue to ten and 11 years olds, despite the fact that he has no experience in the field of renewable energy.

But this is not the first time that our MP has refused to answer direct questions which may land him in hot water.

He is, after all, an ex-spin doctor, and so we should be prepared to expect him to manipulate the media and dodge issues until the next election.

How terribly disappointing for all those voters who put their cross next to his name in good faith in 2017.
