CROWDS flocked to Yarmouth Harbour to enjoy live music and food as part of its fourth annual Spring Fair and Boat Jumble on Saturday.

The festival highlighted the importance of safety both on the water and around the coast with Yarmouth RNLI, Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, NCI Coastwatch and the Coastguard all being represented.

Recently appointed deputy harbour master, Scott Neill, who organised the event with Sarah Judd, said: "The festival provided a focal point for both local residents and visitors over the weekend and hopefully meant an increased footfall for businesses in the town while we are grateful to Wightlink for their ongoing support."

The 'Tea 'N' Biscuit Boys and 'Slainte Va' provided music and there were numerous Island food providers on the Quayside providing hog roasts, fresh seafood and wood fired pizza.

There was an Isle of Wight Distillery bar and entertainment for children on The Green.

Meanwhile, a Caribbean barbecue and music from reggae singer Derek Sandy drew hundreds of people to the gardens of The George Hotel, Yarmouth, on the same day.

Hotel general manager, Brian Garside, said: "We had nearly 100 people booked for the barbecue and the garden was packed throughout the afternoon as visitors took advantage of the sunshine.

"But this was only a warm-up for Derek here, because he will be back with us again on July 21."
