THE Isle of Wight Council has apologised for the "frustration" caused by the new opening hours at Lynnbottom tip.

At the end of March it was reported that the summer opening times at the tip were to be slashed by 35 hours a week — or five hours a day.

The revised opening hours, introduced at the start of October last year, have remained in force and the centre is open between 10am and 6pm, seven days a week.

The council has advised residents to try to visit the tip during quieter times — such as between 3pm and 6pm — and avoid queueing before the tip opens at 10am as this causes delays down the road.

They have also told residents to take items to charity shops, pay for bulky waste collection, or compost garden waste at home and to check traffic in the area before they leave.

Cabinet member for waste management, Cllr Michael Murwill, said: "We truly appreciate the frustration that some residents have felt at the moment, as the Easter holidays - historically the busiest two weeks at the Recycling Centres, alongside Christmas – and the big spring clean and gardening seasons have come in to full swing at the same time."
