DAY ONE of the Isle of Wight Festival and thousands have descended to the Island today (Thursday) for the 50th anniversary of the famous music celebration.

Newport's supermarkets have been full of those doing the traditional booze and food pilgrimage and shops have stocked up on festival essentials.

The Wombats are headlining The Big Top tonight for the happy campers, with The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Depeche Mode and Kasabian headlining The Main Stage for the rest of the weekend.

Festival favourites Chase and Status will be in The Big Top tomorrow (Friday), and Hacienda Classical and Travis will close the tent on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

You can catch an array of Island talent at Kashmir Cafe and The Platform One Stage throughout the weekend, too.

Southern Vectis have released their Festival shuttle bus timetable, which runs between Cowes Red Jet, Newport bus station, Ryde and East Cowes and the festival site.
