IN A drive to cut down plastic use, Isle of Wight Day organisers will not be making any more bunting this year.

Organisers are urging Islanders to re-use bunting they already have or make their own from fabric or other recyclable material.

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Day said: "We're delighted to be working towards a coastline clean up for this year's Isle of Wight Day.

"It's amazing to see how many Islanders are excited to help us keep our beautiful Island tidy.

"In the spirit of taking care of our wonderful planet and minimising our use of plastic, we have taken the decision not to produce any more Isle of Wight Day bunting this year."

In the run up to Isle of Wight Day, bunting making workshops and competitions will be taking place, with details being announced on the Isle of Wight Day website and social media channels.

The spokesperson said: "We’d love to see the bunting flying for Isle of Wight Day as it always does, whether it’s wedding bunting, football bunting, or made from old sheets."

Organisers are also working alongside Plastic Aware to encourage Islanders to use reusable bottles and cups.

A coastline clean up is taking place and Islanders are invited to sign up to the team to help organise the Island's biggest beach clean.
