LANESEND Primary School took part in Cancer Research's first year of Schools Race for Life.

Key Stage 1 students ran one kilometre round the school grounds while Key Stage 2 students doubled that distance.

Organiser, Faye Courage, said: "Without these money-raising events, research could not be carried out and we could not look into cures."

Students dressed in pink on the day for a pound donation and a cake sale and refreshments were available for sale.

Faye added: "I would like to thank Deborah Horricks for her amazing balloon arch, Gary from Joliffes for the air-horn, Bookers for refreshments, and Gurnard Football Club and Valiant services for their donations."

Founder of the junior park run, Ray Scovel, attended to hand out the medals to everyone who took part.

The school raised £400 through the mufti day, £133 in the cake sale and are predicting more than £1,000 to Cancer Research overall.
