A DECISION over double yellow lines in Ryde will be debated by Isle of Wight councillors again next week.

A special meeting has been called following a decision to impose a transport restriction on Hope Road, so a development of 80 houses and associated roads could go ahead.

Cllrs Debbie Andrew, Julie Jones Evans, and Geoff Brodie, with the support of scrutiny chairman Andrew Garratt, have brought the decision back before the scrutiny committee for more debate and questioning.

On August 13, cabinet member for infrastructure and transport, Ian Ward made a decision under delegated powers to approve proposed restrictions on Hope road. Forty eight residents wrote to Cllr Ward objecting to the proposals.

The decision has been called in because Cllrs Andre, Jones Evans, Garratt and Brodie said there was inadequate consultation with stakeholders, partners or the public, and an absence of evidence for the decision.

Councillors said stakeholders, such as the emergency services, were not consulted.

A report, issued by the four councillors, said: “There is no evidence there is a road safety issue other than a possible predicted problem in the future due to 80 new homes on a site accessed by Hope Road which has no evidence to support the claim.”

The issue will be debated on August 30.
