A MAN, previously convicted of attempting to intimidate a witness and attempted burglary, appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday — this time for stealing cheese.

Luke Howarth, 20, of Colwell Chine Road, Freshwater, admitted two offences of theft which took place in Newport on July 31 and August 7 this year.

The offences put him in breach of an 18-month suspended sentence, suspended for two years, imposed by the court in June 2017 when he was convicted for attempting to burgle a home in Newport and intimidating a witness.

Both of this year's thefts involved food. In one, he stole blocks of cheese. He made full and frank admissions to the offences when interviewed by police.

Judge Roger Hetherington told Howarth it would be unjust to activate the suspended sentence.

He revoked Howarth's existing community order and substituted a fresh order with an additional 30 rehabilitation requirement days.

He also fined Howarth £50 and told him to pay a surcharge.
