MEMBERS of the Isle of Wight Vectis Historic Vehicle Club (VHVC) presented £1,000 to Mountbatten following a successful car show.

The money was raised when the club had an open day display at Arreton Barns, showing more than 200 cars.

Members handed the cheque to Mountbatten at a presentation at Newclose Cricket Ground.

VHVC has a long-standing relationship with Mountbatten, and has been raising funds for many years. Their next display will be in December in St Thomas' Square, Newport.

Daniella Johnson, community events fundraiser at Mountbatten, said: "We give VHVC our heartfelt thanks for their continued support of Mountbatten. We are proud to be associated with the club."

The club started life as the Isle of Wight Veteran Machinery Club in 1973, but the name was changed in 1980 to better reflect the general interests of its members.

The 190 members own a vast variety of make and type of vehicle dating from the 1920s to the 2000s.

The club supports many charities, but since 1999 has raised £30,000 for Mountbatten.
