WIGHTLINK ferries and Ryde Inshore Rescue worked together to respond to a Mayday call to a kitesurfer near Ryde Harbour.
Initially, the kitesurfer was believed to be an overturned boat with persons in the water, UK Coastguard told the County Press, so the alarm was raised at 5.09pm.
Assistance was provided by the ferries, shipping vessels in the area, and Ryde Inshore Rescue.
The kitesurfer was returned to shore without any injuries.
