ICE cream van owners united on Tuesday to scoop the Guinness World Record for longest ever ice cream van convoy.

More than 80 ice cream enthusiasts joined Gary and Debbie Hall from Plaza Ices and headed to Wychwood Park in Crewe for the sweetest tasting and most colourful motor vehicle gathering the world has ever seen.

Gary Hall, from Plaza Ices, said: "It was a great day. It's unlikely that we are ever going to meet up like that again, so many ice cream vans in one place.

"The drivers came from all over the UK, Ireland and even from Belgium."

To break the record, the group needed 50 vans to drive in a convoy with no more than ten metres between them.

"There was actually quite a bit of pressure — they were very strict on the requirements."

Representatives from Guinness World Records attended the day and after the impressive sight of 84 vans completed the convoy, the judge announced they were official World Record holders.
