VANDALS smashed the skylight windows at Shanklin Scout Hut at Batt Roads yesterday afternoon (Monday).

The incident is thought to have happened between 1pm and 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson from Isle of Wight Police said: "We are investigating a report of criminal damage after two windows were damaged at the Scout Hut in Batts Road, Shanklin.

"The damage is believed to have occurred between 1pm and 2.35pm. Both windows are located in the roof of the Hut."

The Co-op on Landguard Road, Shanklin, have been raising money for the 1st Shanklin Scouts Group through their charity buckets.

One employee said: "The money we have been raising for them now has to go towards fixing their windows. What a shame."

The Co-op are hosting a cake sale tomorrow (Wednesday) with all funds going towards the 1st Shanklin Scout Group.

One person commented on Facebook: "I don't understand why people would want to break our windows, in which now our group have to pay for.

"All our money is from fundraising and donations from the lovely community. We do this for the children in our community and then we get yobs doing this."
