THE ISLE of Wight Hockey Club’s men’s and ladies’ first teams enjoyed resounding wins at home and on the road on Saturday.

ISLE OF WIGHT MEN I 7, FAREHAM IV 1

THE Islanders’ Adam Payne had a field day at Smallbrook Stadium.

Both sides started strongly, but it was IW who drew first blood, with Payne slotting home his first of four goals.

Fareham responded with a scrappy tap-in at the far post to level, but then Samuel Challis scored with a delicate reverse stick shot to bring the score to 2-1 at the break.

Aaron Hoare, Stuart Allen and Lewis Heaven-Gandy absorbed Fareham’s attacks.

Stephen Woodford was tenacious on the left to link up well with the energetic forward line, which helped Will Mew, Tom Turney and Payne to add more goals in quick succession.

TROJANS LADIES IV 0, ISLE OF WIGHT LADIES I 7

AFTER a good Trojans start, IW settled into the game with Katy Ednay opening the floodgates with a shot inside near post.

After a play down the right, Jamie Payne slotted in, then Saffron Hart added another before half-time.

In the second half, IW were rewarded with goals from Lola Marfleet, Carolyn McClellan, Georgia Whittle, with a volley, and a second from Ednay to complete the rout.

McClellan was named Wightlink player of the match for her all-action performance.

The Islanders remain top of South Central Division 2.

BASINGSTOKE MEN IV 1, ISLE OF WIGHT MEN II 3

A CALM finish by Finn Woodford kept IW in the game at 1-1 at half-time.

After losing their way initially after the break, IW got a foothold and led through Tom Young, who slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs.

The pressure was off when Steve Holbrook put the ball onto the stick of Young to score another, this time over the keeper.
