A popular Isle of Wight restaurant, based at a hotel in Ventnor, has been nominated for a coveted national award.

Restaurant Matthew Tomkinson, situated in the Hambrough Hotel, is up for the prestigious Menu of the Year Award at the Cateys 2023.

The Cateys are among the largest and most sought-after awards in the hospitality sector and recognise excellence in service, innovation and quality.

Executive Chef Matthew Tomkinson, who previously won a Cateys award for Hotel Chef of the Year in 2015, said: "I am unbelievably proud to bring recognition to our restaurant here in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight where we constantly aim for the highest quality food using our fabulous local produce wherever we can.

"Since opening the restaurant at The Hambrough on May 17, 2021, the
day the hospitality world re-opened after Covid, it has been a rollercoaster ride for myself, my number two, Chef Craig Englefield, and our team to create a destination restaurant based on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight.

"To be nominated for this award is a testament to the hard work we have put in to ensure the consistently high standards we set ourselves have been achieved and the fantastic local produce we have on our doorstep.”

More than 100 judges, chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, and past success as Catey winners themselves, met for four days of intense debate to discuss the nominees and produce the shortlists of the various
categories.

The winners of the awards will be revealed at a glittering event on July 4 at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.
