I was very interested to read the letters you published regarding the cost of Isle of Wight ferries.

We live in Yorkshire and have been holidaying (on and off) on the Island for over 50 years.

We love the Island and even though it's a long drive for us, we would holiday there more often if the cost of the ferries wasn't so high.

The Isle of Wight is a beautiful place with a wonderful climate, we've always had great weather when we've visited.

I'm certain that, in the present climate, more people, particularly families, would holiday on the Island if the ferry prices were not so extortionate.

In comparison, we have visited France several times over the last 15 years and I have to say our five hour crossing from Portsmouth to Caen cost far less than the 40 minute crossing to the Island, approximately half the price, including our car.

Surely something can be done to reduce these costs?
