Patrick Costello, Ballybunion, County Kerry, Ireland:

I have been a regular visitor to the Isle of Wight.

It is a truly appalling state of affairs that when one is motoring from Arreton to Newport or motoring up the hill from Arreton to say Robin Hill that a single cyclist can create a 'tail back' of many dozens of cars.

Cyclists should not be allowed to use the 'main' roads on the Isle of Wight.

Something needs to be done about this as an urgent need.

Also the fact that when one gets to the top of the hill, close to the Hare and Hounds public house, there is no room for cars/traffic to carry on straight, if someone in front needs to turn right to go across the downs.

It beggars belief that a tiny strip of land to be purchased from the farmer (compulsory if needs be ) so as to enable traffic to go straight on without being held up, to then find the lights turn red, was never actioned.

This also need to be done.
And how come during the height of the tourist season one sees a spate of road works being commenced with roads being closed (and main routes)?Poor planning?
