An American-style bar and grill has opened at the former home of a once-popular cocktail bar on the Isle of Wight.

Wyatts is now operating from upstairs in 24A Holyrood Street, which was previously home to Long Island.

The cocktail bar confirmed it would stop trading in August and, at the same time, revealed it was to open a new restaurant in its place.

Former employee and head chef, Andy Wyatt, who took over the restaurant in June 2022, is at the helm of the building's latest eatery.

He told the County Press: "We will be serving American grill style food with some Mexican influences, as well as weekly specials with up and coming food trends making an appearance.

"We will also be doing a Sunday roast offering on a Sunday, with Sunday roasts wraps in Yorkshire puddings which I don’t believe anywhere else on the Island does."

Wyatts will also run a takeaway and collection service for Newport and surrounding areas, including East Cowes, Cowes and Wootton.

A separate business, Newport Ale House, also operates in the building.
