A DELIVERY driver caught drug driving in his Audi A3 has had his livelihood taken away from him.

Mark Taylor, of Beachfield Road, Sandown, admitted drug driving in Newport on July 14, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 13.

Police, who received a report Taylor may have been using cannabis, followed him from Coppins Bridge and pulled him over on St George's Way at 11.45am.

Taylor, 42, failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis and was subsequently arrested.

At Newport Police Station, Taylor's blood sample revealed he was exactly double the legal limit, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting.

For Taylor, Barry Arnett said his client would lose work as a self-employed delivery driver as a result of his conviction.

"It has been a big jolt to the system for him," Mr Arnett added.

In mitigation, Mr Arnett said Taylor had been a cannabis smoker for a long time, but has, since he was caught drug-driving, got himself off the drug.

Magistrates disqualified Taylor from driving for a year and fined him £120, with £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
