The floating bridge only recently returned to service, having undergone its annual refit.

The latest suspension comes weeks after councillors voted to replace the Floating Bridge 6, which has been plagued with issues since it came into service in 2017.

Council leader Cllr Phil Jordan said the decision was "a long time coming".

UPDATE:

The floating bridge remains out of service due to an electrical fault.

The IW Council said repairs are due to get underway shortly with the aim of returning the vessel to service at 8am on Easter Saturday (March 30).

The launch service will remain in operation for foot passengers and cyclists.
