A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after a collision on a main Isle of Wight road this afternoon (Wednesday, April 17).

Police were called at 3.38pm to reports of a collision between a Suzuki Swift and a motorbike outside the County Showground, where Newport Road meets Cowes Road.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s from East Cowes, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said.

The man has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Traffic on the main Newport to Cowes road has been moving slowly throughout today, due to temporary traffic lights on Horsebridge Hill/Parkhurst Road near the prison.

The traffic lights are necessary to allow for utility repair and maintenance works to be undertaken by Openreach.

It is advised to avoid the area if you can.
