Isle of Wight households are set to receive a new annual waste and recycling guide soon.

The booklets should be posted to residents by the end of the month.

The handy booklet contains details on waste collections for your area, including:

  • Useful information on the waste and recycling service
  • Your annual calendar of waste and recycling collection dates
  • How to book free and paid for additional services, such as re-use collections and Collection Plus
  • Details on the Island's household waste recycling centres
  • Guidance for businesses and holiday let owners requiring commercial waste collections.

A new addition to the service last autumn is the introduction of same day bookings at the Household Waste and Recycling Centres.

Visits can still be booked in advance, but this extra change gives residents the option of booking on the same day, if you prefer.

Residents can now book one same day visit per day, up to two hours beforehand.

There is also the option to amend or cancel your same day booking up to an hour before your visit.

Natasha Dix, the council's service director for waste, environment and planning, said: “Once again, I would like to thank residents for supporting the Island in reducing, reusing and recycling our waste.

“If you are having difficulty with your waste and recycling, or want to know how you can reduce, reuse and recycle more, we will do our best to help you.

“Just call us or get in touch on email or online.”

Any households that do not receive a booklet by the start of May are advised to contact the council's waste and recycling team to request a copy by emailing waste.contract@iow.gov.uk or calling (01983) 823777.
