A PETITION to name 'Floating Bridge Number Six' after Blyskawica - the Polish warship that defended Cowes and East Cowes from a Nazi bombing raid 75 years ago - has gathered nearly 650 signatures.
The petition, started by East Cowes IW Council member and leader of the Island Independent Group, Julia Baker-Smith, has gathered 648 supporters.
Earlier this month, a separate petition was launched to name the bridge 'Floaty McFloatface' which, to date, has received more than 2,800 signatures.
The new chain ferry is due to be launched within weeks of the 75th anniversary of Blyskawica's heroic defence of the two towns on the night of May 4 and 5 1942.
Scores of residents were killed in the raid.
