SAVE Our NHS campaigners marched from St Mary’s Hospital to Cowes, got on the Red Jet, and walked to Southampton General Hospital to highlight the journey Isle of Wight patients face.
The group, consisting of concerned members of the public, took to the streets on Saturday to voice their concerns about the Sustainability and Transformation Plan — a plan to increase the Island’s health care links with the mainland.
Co-organiser Christine Lightbody, of East Cowes, wanted to highlight the need for services to remain on the Island and not be transferred to the mainland.
She said travel costs were a real issue for some families, and encouraged people to stand up for their local services.
An Isle of Wight NHS Trust spokesperson said the planned changes would move health services closer to people's homes over the next five years.
